COAS Munir in Uzbekistan to enhance defence cooperation: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Asim Munir, is in Uzbekistan on a two-day official visit to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation with the nation.

The military's media arm issued a brief statement today stating, "COAS Asim Munir is on a two-day official visit to Uzbekistan for enhancing military to military cooperation and defense collaboration."

The army chief met with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the president of Uzbekistan, the defense minister, and the chairman and secretary of the state security service during his visit.

The COAS placed a strong focus on the meetings' need to improve information sharing and mutual training collaboration.

He was impressed by the armed forces of Uzbekistan's level of readiness, training, and knowledge of regional security problems.

When COAS Munir arrived at the Ministry of Defense, a well-dressed contingent gave him a warm greeting and honored him with a Guard of Honour. In Tashkent, he also placed a floral wreath at the Martyrs' Memorial Complex.

The day before, a delegation from the Lahore Chambers of Commerce and Industries, led by its president Kashif Anwar, held a conversation with COAS General Asim Munir on the state of the country's economy.

According to Kashif Anwar, head of the Lahore Chambers of Commerce and Industries, COAS General Asim Munir assured the business community that financial transactions will be subject to taxation.

Anwar gave a detailed account of the topics covered at the meeting, stating that the COAS guaranteed openness in dollar exchange and interbank rates.

At the meeting, General Asim Munir stressed the Special Investment Facilitation Council's (SIFC) critical importance, highlighting how it might attract sizeable investments of up to $100 billion from countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and others.

Anwar said that COAS General Asim is certain Pakistan would emerge from the current financial crisis because the nation has the ability to recover.
