LAHORE: According to ARTICLE NEWS on Friday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued an order to impose an on-the-spot fine for violating one-way traffic laws within the city.

In a significant hearing held today about the city's ongoing pollution issue, the Lahore High Court issued a number of orders and expressed its deep worry over the execution of construction projects in light of the impending smog season.

The court issued an order imposing a Rs 2,000 on-the-spot fine for breaking the city's one-way traffic laws.

The court expressed its displeasure over the start of development projects throughout the city during the next smog season and questioned why the projects were scheduled between September and January, when smog levels are at their highest.

The court highlighted that fining smoke-emitting automobiles was insufficient and that the vehicle should be impounded after a second infraction

500 cement barriers have been given to the traffic police in an effort to address these problems, according to a Lahore Development Authority (LDA) spokeswoman, who also presented a report on the execution of Section 144.

A thorough report on the status of carrying out court orders was provided by the Lahore Commissioner.

In addition, 79 business buildings and 60 restaurants received letters from the Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (TEPA) for parking offences. TEPA also gave them instructions to fix the parking problems within a day or two.

A district smog committee has reportedly been established to take proactive steps in preventing smog-related issues. Additionally, a sizeable budgetary investment of Rs 120 million has been made for initiatives intended to enhance traffic flow and develop roundabouts throughout the city.

The LDA has agreed to plant one million trees with a private institution as part of a substantial environmental initiative that will help fight air pollution.
