Pervaiz Elahi's MPO-issued detention order is suspended by IHC, and he is ordered released.

ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) halted Pervaiz Elahi's incarceration in accordance with the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance and ordered his immediate release.

The arrest of Pervaiz Elahi, a former chief minister of Punjab, as an MPO is being contested in court by the Islamabad High Court. He pleaded with the judge to release him right away and overturn his MPO arrest.

The interior secretary, IGP Islamabad, and other parties were included as respondents in the PTI president's petition.

Elahi, the leader of the PTI, was given release orders by Justice Tariq Mehmood Jehangiri of the IHC after the case was heard. Additionally, the court notified the respondents and asked for their comments at the ensuing hearing.

The IHC further ordered the former chief minister of Punjab to appear in court at the next session and prevented him from testifying till then.

It should be recalled that Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was released on the Lahore High Court's instructions and then promptly detained again by Islamabad police under 3-MPO.

The LHC, who also issued the extra registrar for security, the DIG Operations, and other top police officers detailed instructions, had mandated Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi's safe return to his residence.

Shortly after he was transferred to Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad sentenced him to 15 days in jail in compliance with Pakistan's Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).

Elahi is one of many PTI leaders who have been prosecuted under the MPO as a result of the campaign against the organization that began after the events on May 9.

On August 14, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Elahi for failing to furnish the accountability bureau with information in the assets beyond means case involving him, his son Monis Elahi, and other family members.
